Reflectance Model of a Plant Leaf
نویسندگان
چکیده
A light ray, incident at about 50 to the normal, io geometrically plotted through the drawing of the cross section of a soybean leaf using Fresnel's Equations and Snell's Law. The optical mediums of the leaf considered for ray tracing are: air, cell sap, chloroplast and cell wall. The above ray is also drawn through the same leaf cross section considering cell wall and air as the only optical mediums. The values of the reflection and transmission found from ray tracing agree closely with the experimental results ob~ained using a Beckman DK-2A Spectr~reflectometer. Similarly a light ray, incident at about 60· to the normal, is dr~ through the palisade cells of a soy. bean leaf to illustrate the pathway of light, incident at an oblique angle, through the palisade cells.

Water content estimation in vegetation with MODIS reflectance data and model inversion methods
Statistical and radiative-transfer physically based studies have previously demonstrated the relationship between leaf water content and leaf-level reflectance in the near-infrared spectral region. The successful scaling up of such methods to the canopy level requires modeling the effect of canopy structure and viewing geometry on reflectance bands and optical indices used for estimation of wat...
متن کاملUltraviolet leaf reflectance of common urban trees and the prediction of reflectance from leaf surface characteristics
The spectral reflectance and transmittance over the wavelength range of 250–700 nm were evaluated for leaves of 20 deciduous tree species and leaf sheaths of five isogenic wax variants of Sorghum bicolor differing in visible reflectance due to cuticular waxes. Using the sorghum sheath reflectance and cuticle surface characteristics as a model, it was concluded that tree leaf reflectance above 0...
متن کاملPhysical and Physiological Basis for the Reflectance of Visible and Near-Infrared Radiation from Vegetation
Knowledge of how solar radiation interacts with vegetation is necessary to interpret and process remote sensing data of agricultural and many natural resources. A plant leaf typically has a low reflectance in the visible spectral region because of strong absorption by chlorophylls, a relatively high reflectance in the near-infrared because of internal leaf scattering and no absorption, and a re...

Precision agriculture, forestry and environmental remote sensing are applications uniquely suited to the 8 bands that DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-2 provides. At the fine spatial resolution of 0.5 m (panchromatic) and 2 m (multispectral) individual trees can be readily resolved. Recent research [1] has shown that it is possible for hyperspectral data to invert plant reflectance spectra and estimate...
متن کاملA domain wall model for spectral reflectance of plant leaves
We model a plant leaf by using two-dimensional domain walls with internal structures. Such domain walls can be found as soliton solutions in field theory describing magnetic materials. The radiation scattered by such domain walls behaves quite similar to the spectral reflectance of plant leaves. The model nicely simulates the spectral reflectance of a plant leaf as a function of the wavelength....
متن کاملRelating Light Reflectance of a Leaf to Light Absorbance by Foliar Chlorophyll as a Preliminary Approach to Detection of Forest Condition by Remote Sensing
A trial for estimating leaf chlorophyll content based on leaf reflectance was conducted for three major plant species in Daegu, South Korea. To estimate the chlorophyll content in a leaf, we measured the leaf elongation and related the leaf reflectance to its absorbance. Leaves of the target species were found to start elongating around the middle of April and continued elongation until the mid...
